Y’all, it’s official—we’re Alabama residents! Who knew that a trip to the DMV could feel like such a milestone?

For years, Florida had been our “home base” on paper while we traveled in our RV. And while Florida has its perks, let us tell you—when it comes to automobile registration and insurance, Alabama came through with some serious savings. We’re talking dollars back in our pocket that can now go toward things we actually enjoy, like date nights, grandkid adventures, or a little extra gas money for our next road trip.

The process itself? Surprisingly smooth. Each state has its own quirky system, but here in Alabama, we walked out with paper driver’s licenses in hand, laughing about how it felt like a temporary hall pass. The plastic copies will arrive in the mail soon, but until then, we’re rocking our paper versions with pride.

And here’s the real kicker: the Department of Motor Vehicles is located right here on base. No long drives, no confusing directions, no wondering where to park. It made transferring everything over quick and easy—dare we say, almost painless!

This little chapter is another reminder that leaving Florida and setting up roots in Alabama is giving us more than just affordability—it’s giving us convenience, peace of mind, and a fresh start we didn’t know we needed.
