When you choose the RV lifestyle, you're choosing freedom. Freedom to roam, to explore, to live life on your own terms. But freedom without fitness? That’s a one-way ticket to stiffness, fatigue, and weight gain.
That’s why movement isn’t optional in our journey—it’s fuel.
Whether we’re parked in the desert, tucked into a military FamCamp, or boondocking at a Harvest Hosts, we make wellness a non-negotiable. Not because we’re obsessed with fitness, but because we want to keep hiking, biking, climbing, and exploring for as long as this road will allow us.
Here’s how we fuel our nomad life with movement—no matter the location, the weather, or the square footage.
Walk First, Always
Every single day, no matter where we are, we start with a walk.
Sometimes it’s a mile through the campground. Other days it’s a 4-mile loop around a military base trail or a Harvest Hosts property.
Why we walk:
It wakes up the body and the brain
It helps regulate digestion, energy, and mood
It’s free and always available
We keep a pair of walking shoes right by the door. If nothing else happens in the day, that walk still counts.
Kettlebell Power in a Tiny Space
Kettlebells changed the game for us.
We travel with two—one for each of us—and they fit perfectly in our RV’s storage compartment. With just a few moves (swings, presses, squats, rows), we can get a full-body workout in 20 minutes, right outside or even inside our rig.
- Our go-to kettlebell moves on the road:
- 30-second swings (great cardio & core)
- Goblet squats
- Overhead presses
- Bent-over rows
- Deadlifts with holds
Mack is certified in Kettlebell and below is a demo video on how to perform the moves properly
Core Workouts in Our 24-Foot RV
Yes, you can work your core in a small space.
We’ve built a solid routine that requires nothing but a yoga mat and intention.
Favorite no-equipment core moves we rotate:
- Planks (30-second intervals)
- Crunches
- V Ups
- Leg Lifts
Military Base Gyms
One of the biggest benefits of using military FamCamps as our home base? Access to base gyms. It has allowed us to save money by canceling our gym membership and the gyms are awesome.
The military gyms often include:
- Fully equipped weight rooms
- Cardio equipment
- Showers (y’all that RV know how clutch that is!)
- Suanas
- Pools
- Group fitness classes
- Tracks for running/walking
Because Mack is a disabled military veteran, we tap into these benefits regularly. It gives us consistency and variety, even while we’re constantly on the move.
And we don’t just go—we schedule our weeks around gym access when it’s available.
Movement = Mobility = Freedom
RV life is amazing. But sitting too long in a driver’s seat, skipping workouts because of weather, or just falling out of routine? That can sneak up on you.
- We move because it makes everything else possible.
- Because we want to keep hiking national parks.
- Because we want to ride our e-bikes without pain.
- Because we want to wake up energized, not stiff.

Ready to Move with Us?
Start small. Step outside. Pick up a kettlebell. Do a few crunches in the RV hallway.
We’re living proof:
You don’t need a fancy gym. You just need a commitment to move.
Stay fit and travel safe,
Kirsten & Mack
