Making Every Day Count

After 50

August 4, 2026

We used to believe that the most memorable parts of life would always be the big ones.

  • The vacation of our dreams.
  • The birthday milestone.
  • Retiring.
  • The family reunion.
  • The bucket list adventures.

These times are great and we appreciate all of them.

But somewhere along the way we've discovered something unexpected.

The life we are most thankful for is not made up of days we mark on the calendar.

It’s made of common Tuesday afternoons.

The morning stroll before the neighborhood is awake.

The coffee discussions.

Trying a new place to eat instead of going back to the old one.

Heading home the long way, just because we have the time.

Those little moments quietly became some of our favorites.

This summer has reminded us of that more than ever!

We’ve stayed in great hotels, seen new cities, dined on rooftops to watch sunsets, and wandered places we’ve never seen before. Those encounters have been amazing yet when we look back, it is not necessarily what we remember first.

Sometimes it's the conversation we had while walking to dinner.

The local coffee shop with the delicious iced Americano that we stumbled across by accident.

The quiet view from a hotel balcony before the city came alive.

The laughter that happened because something didn't quite go according to our plans.

Those are the moments that stay with us.

Getting older has changed the way we look at time. Not because we feel like we're running out of it.

Because we've finally realized how valuable an ordinary day really is.

Every morning gives us another opportunity to move our bodies a little more.

To touch base with friends we've been meaning to call.

To learn about something we've never knew before.

To go somewhere close to home.

To choose thankfulness over racing through another day.

None of these actions seem extraordinary by themselves, but over weeks and months and years they become the story of our life.

That's why our theme for August is Making Every Day Count After 50.

Not by turning every day into something spectacular.

Not by entertaining ourselves.

Not by attempting to make every moment ideal.

By just seeing the opportunities that are already waiting within the life we are experiencing.

Throughout this month we'll be sharing simple ideas, meaningful conversations, travel experiences, and practical ways we've learned to be more intentional with our days.

Some will happen while we're traveling.

Others will happen right at home.

Because making every day count isn't about where we are.

It's about how we choose to live wherever we happen to be.

If this season of life has taught us anything, it's that meaningful memories aren't reserved for special occasions.

They're created one ordinary day at a time.

And tomorrow is another chance to create one

We hope you'll spend this month with us as we discover just how much life can be found in the days that once seemed ordinary.

Everyday is an opportunity to thrive and live boldy after 50.

With love & gratitude,

Kirsten & Mack 💙
