Marriage doesn’t come with a pause button, and neither does love. Yet so many couples hit their 50s, 60s, and beyond and quietly set dating aside. Maybe it’s because late-night outings lose their shine. Maybe it’s because routines get comfortable. Or maybe it’s simply because no one is talking about how fun and life-giving dating can still be after a certain age.
We are here to change that. ❤️
We believe dating your spouse is just as important now as it was in your 20s. The only difference? The way you do it. And for us, that means day dating. Not only is it practical, it’s exciting, refreshing, and dare we say more fun than night life ever was.
Last week, we brought back our Tuesday Day Date tradition here in Huntsville, Alabama, and it reminded us all over again why this little ritual has kept our marriage thriving.
Why Day Dates Work So Well After 50
When you’re in your 20s or 30s, it’s natural to want to hit the night scene. Dinner at 9 p.m., concerts that run past midnight, spontaneous late-night drives. But let’s be real at a certain age, the thought of being out until 1 a.m. doesn’t sound nearly as exciting as it used to.
That doesn’t mean dating has to stop. It just means we get to redefine what dating looks like.
Day dates let you:
- Avoid the late-night crowds
- Enjoy activities while you’re full of energy (instead of yawning through them!)
- Spend quality time together without rushing
- Explore new parts of your city that you might overlook after dark
For us, day dates aren’t just practical—they’re fun. They’ve become our thing.
Our Tuesday Tradition
Long before the world shut down, we set aside Tuesdays as our day-date at the movies. It wasn’t fancy, but it was consistent. Every week, we’d grab popcorn, settle into our seats, and laugh, cry, or gasp our way through whatever movie was playing.
It wasn’t about the movie itself—it was about the time carved out, week after week. And honestly, that tradition carried us through some stressful seasons.
When the pandemic hit, movie theaters went quiet, and our RV adventures took over for a while. But now that we’ve found our new home base in Huntsville, we’re ready to get back to it. And last week, we did just that.
Discovering the Cinemark in Huntsville
To our delight, we discovered that right outside the gate is a Cinemark Theater clean, comfortable, and convenient. It felt like the perfect place to restart our tradition.
The movie we chose couldn’t have been more fitting: The Senior
The Senior: Why This Movie Hit Home
The Senior tells the true story of Mike Flynt, a man who returned to play college football at age 59—nearly 40 years after being kicked off the team. It’s a story about second chances, resilience, and refusing to let age define you.
As we watched, we found ourselves nodding, smiling, and even laughing at how much it mirrored our own outlook on life.
RVing in our50s and 60s. Hitting hiking trails. Lifting weights. Trying new restaurants. Creating new dreams. We’re living proof that it’s never too late to embrace adventure and joy.
For anyone wondering, “Am I too old to chase new dreams?” this movie is your answer: Absolutely not.
A Surprise Inside the Theater
One thing we didn’t expect? A restaurant inside the theater. After the movie, we stopped by and struck up a conversation with the hostess and chef.
They told us about an upstairs adult lounge where you can play games, order food and drinks, and make it an experience beyond just a movie. They even gave us some great movie recommendations for our next date.
It reminded us that sometimes the best parts of a date are the unplanned surprises, the conversations, the discoveries, the little extras that make it memorable.
Why Dating Still Matters in Marriage
Some people might say, “We’ve been married this long, why do we need to date?” To that, we’d say: dating is fuel for connection.
Here’s why it matters:
- Keeps the spark alive. Romance doesn’t just happen—it’s nurtured.
- Gives you fresh experiences. Doing something new creates new memories.
- Breaks the routine. Life can be heavy. Dates remind us to have fun.
- Shows intentional love. Setting aside time says, “You matter to me.”
The truth is, dating isn’t about age it’s about attitude. And the couples who keep dating are the ones who keep growing together.
Here’s the truth: just because you’re not as young as you once were doesn’t mean dating should end. If night life isn’t your thing, don’t let that stop you. There’s a whole world of daytime adventures waiting, you just have to find them.
And here in Huntsville, we’re seeing more and more options every week.
