#1 Is the equipment necessary?

There is a lot of emerging exercise equipment that looks fancy and boasts quick fat-burning results. To save your bank account, consider whether this equipment is something you need. Are you going to be following a particular program, and if so, what do they recommend you use? Most of the time, you can get a lot of work out of a pair of dumbbells, a kettlebell, and a resistance band. Once you purchase the basic equipment you need, you can start to build up from there as you grow in your workouts. You don’t have to create a fully equipped home gym to get started with home workouts. You would likely end up purchasing lots of items you are not going to use very often. 

#2 Do you have the space for the new equipment?

It’s all well and good purchasing gym equipment, but do you have the space to store it safely at home/rv or without it getting in the way and becoming a hazard? It is also important to consider if you can safely use the equipment in the space that you have, for example, if you are going to be using a kettlebell in a small room, or if you are considering larger equipment such as a treadmill. It is best to first measure the room to ensure there is enough space before you purchase. 

#3 Is it safe to use? 

Before exercising at home, you must consider your health and wellbeing. Are you able to carefully, and safely, use the workout equipment on your own? If you have a pre-existing health condition, have you spoken with your physician or doctor before working out at home? It is important you feel safe, and have the all-clear from doctors where necessary, to ensure you can exercise safely at home.

You must also consider the safety of the equipment you are purchasing, and that the company you are purchasing from is a trustworthy manufacturer. With approximately 526,000 people each year in the emergency room due to exercise equipment failure, research is paramount. It is important to research the company, make sure they are marketing what they say they are with sufficient safety instructions, and after it arrives, check for any design or manufacturing defects (such as flaws in the build, missing bolts, easily tipped, etc) Or you may have a product liability case on your hands. 

There are a lot of things that need to be considered when purchasing exercise equipment. Make sure you know what you need, how to use it safely, and conduct thorough research into the equipment beforehand.
