Camping at Davis-Monthan Fam Camp - Tucson, AZ

April 19, 2022

Between March 27 and 31 we camped at Davis Monthan AFG Family Camp in Tucson, Arizona. The Arizona temperatures had not become too hot, it was actually a bit cool and cloudy on some days.  We experienced a heavy rain storm on our first night.

The spots are spacious and the showers and laundry rooms are among the cleanest we have seen.   The Fam Camp is open to Active Duty, National Guard, Reservists, Retired Military, 0-100% DAV, Purple Heart Recipients, Former POW, Veteran Caregivers, DoD civilians, and Sponsored Guests.

Amenities include:  Full hookups as well as dry camping, playground, picinic area, golf, library, fitness center, movie theater, post office, rv/car wash (yes, there is an RV wash on the base) and community pool. The pool was closed during our stay.  The park has 197 FHU Sites and 57 overflow dry camping site.

We were able to get out and get our steps in at the large track near the campground.

We cashed in on the Wednesday Lunch Special on base. Buy lunch and bowl for free :)

We took a trip to Saguaro National Park where we were able to once again benefit from being an America the Beautiful Access Pass Holder.  If you do not have a pass you can view the rates for park entry here.

It was a cool morning and bit of an overcast so we decided to drive  Rincon Mountain District (East) which is a paved, combination one - and two-way road. We did get out and walk the short trails that were along the way.

We enjoyed dinner on our first night at Guadalajara's Grill Fiesta.   It was our first time experiencing salsa being made tableside and it did not disappoint.   We enjoyed it so much we went back a few days later for lunch.

The 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARG), also known as the "Boneyard."  can be seen from campground.  We did not tour The Pima Air & Space Museum located on base but plan to on our next visit.

Enjoy the fun video below that Mack made of our Tuscon, AZ adventures.

Everyone we met prior to our stay highly recommended Davis Monthan AFG Family Camp and we do too!
