Our Top 3 Cocoa Beach Experiences

(And Why They Belong on Your RV Bucket List)

June 17, 2025

As midlife RV nomads, we're always on the lookout for experiences that blend joy, learning, and peace. And Cocoa Beach delivered! Whether you’re on a weekend getaway, camping at Patrick Space Force Base, or stopping through on your snowbird route, here are the three best things we did in Cocoa Beach—and why you should add them to your RV travel list.

Let’s start with the classic!

The historic Cocoa Beach Pier

You can’t visit Cocoa Beach without walking the legendary Cocoa Beach Pier. This iconic boardwalk stretches 800 feet into the Atlantic Ocean and offers everything from mouthwatering seafood to beachfront bars where the drinks are cold and the music flows.

We stopped at Rikki Tiki Tavern at the very end of the pier, ordered two cocktails, and let the ocean breeze work its magic. Between the sound of the waves, live music floating through the air, and the laughter of locals and tourists alike—it’s the kind of moment you wish you could bottle up.

Tips:

  • Arrive early for a peaceful sunrise walk, or come in the evening for live music and golden hour perfection.
  • Park smart: parking can be limited, so consider biking or walking in from a nearby lot.
  • The pier also hosts small festivals and pop-up vendors, so check local listings for events during your visit!

Kennedy Space Center

If you’ve ever looked up at the stars and felt curious, excited, or just plain amazed—then Kennedy Space Center is your playground. It’s only a 30-minute drive from Cocoa Beach.

We stood beneath the Space Shuttle Atlantis, sat in a launch simulator, and even teared up watching the stories of astronauts whose missions changed the world. The exhibits are interactive, inspirational, and make space travel feel more real and accessible.

Why It Hit Home for Us:
As an African American couple who believes in living boldly and dreaming big, seeing the achievements of Black astronauts and engineers reminded us that there are no limits—whether in space or in life.

Helpful Tips:

  • Plan ahead by checking the launch schedule—if your trip lines up with a rocket launch, you’re in for a once-in-a-lifetime show!
  • Buy tickets online to save time.
  • Wear comfy shoes and plan for 4-6 hours to really soak it all in.
  • Veteran perks: Bring your military ID for possible discounts.

The Beach!

The Beach, Baby! Surf, Sand & Sunshine in Every Step

It wouldn’t be a Cocoa Beach post without the actual beach, right? And this beach is the real deal. Known as the East Coast Surf Capital, it’s a beautiful stretch of Atlantic shoreline where every day feels like a vacation.

We decided to rent bikes and ride the sand at low tide—an unforgettable experience that felt like freedom on two wheels.

More Ways to Soak It In:

  • Book a surf lesson with Ron Jon’s or another local shop if you’re ready to ride the waves.
  • Walk the shoreline barefoot at sunrise—it’s grounding, peaceful, and perfect for mindful moments.
  • Bring a lunch and hang out under the shaded picnic areas at Lori Wilson Park. Free parking, restrooms, and easy beach access make it one of our favorites.

Final Thoughts from the Road

Cocoa Beach welcomed us with open arms—and left us recharged and full of joy. We noticed significant improvements since our visit in 2020 the roads are now more pedestrian friendly with light up cross walks, new construction of buildings and the availability of a variety of restaurants.

For our fellow RVers—especially those of us navigating midlife transitions—this town offers more than just tourist stops. It offers moments. Moments to reconnect, to reflect, and to remember that this journey isn’t just about the miles… it’s about the memories.

So if Cocoa Beach is on your route, don't just drive through—stay, explore, and make your own top three memories.

Safe travels friends,
