If there’s one thing this season of life has taught us, it’s that the best chapters rarely begin the way we expect them to.
Like most people, we thought we knew what life after 50 would be like. We made plans, we dreamed, and we imagined what the years ahead would bring.
Some of those plans happened.
Many didn't.
Looking back, we're thankful they didn't.
A lot of the things that have given us the most joy were never on our radar. They arrived because we stayed open to a different path than the one we had mapped out.
Sometimes the Detour Becomes the Destination
When we left full time RV living and opted to make Huntsville our home, it was such a huge transition.
We knew we had made the right decision but we had no idea what was going to happen next.
We certainly never imagined we would be sharing more of our travel stories online to thousands of people, experiencing new places as content creators, or inspiring others over 50 to keep saying yes to new adventures.
Life has a funny way of bringing opportunities we never knew we were looking for.
That doesn’t only happen with travel.
It does happen in relationships.
In Career.
In pastimes.
And in the friendships we build along the way.
Sometimes a single unexpected decision silently impacts all that follows.
The Plans May Change, but the Purpose Doesn't
We've come to believe that purpose isn't found in one place, one career, or one season of life.
Our purpose expands with us.
It appears in varied ways as our lives change:
- Sometimes it’s in caring for family.
- Sometimes it’s a rediscovery of our health.
- Sometimes it's finally taking the trip we've dreamed about for years.
And sometimes it's simply being willing to try something new, even when we don't know where it might lead.
Leave Room for the Unexpected
After 50, it’s easy to think we’ve got life all figured out.
But what if we've only discovered the first half of the story?
There are still places waiting to inspire us.
People waiting to encourage us.
Experiences that can remind us we're still growing.
We don't have to chase every opportunity that comes our way.
We simply don't want to close the door on something wonderful because it wasn't part of the original plan.
The Next Chapter Is Still Being Written
One of the greatest freedoms we've found in this season is letting go of the idea that everything has to happen exactly as we imagined it would.
Life doesn’t require us to have all the answers.
It’s telling us to be curious, stay positive, and keep going.
The next chapter can be totally unlike the previous chapter.
That does not diminish its importance.
Indeed, it may be the chapter that we are most grateful for.
Something to Remember
This week, think about one unexpected turn your life has taken.
Did it lead you somewhere better than you imagined?
We'd love to hear your story because sometimes the paths we never planned become the ones that shape us the most.
After all, thriving after 50 isn't about following a perfect roadmap.
It's about embracing the journey, wherever it leads.
Keep Thriving,
Kirsten & Mack
